About CBD

(Cannibidiol)

CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is one of at least 113 known Cannabinoids that research suggests have significant therapeutic benefits. Cannabinoids are natural compounds found within Industrial Hemp and Cannabis plants, and even within the human body.

Recent studies have confirmed that human breast milk contains Cannabinoids naturally, and are vital for proper human development. In each of our bodies there is a system of proteins called the "Endocannabinoid System". This system responds to the Cannabinoids that are present, and when introduced through breast milk, promotes growth and development in infants and when introduced as an herb or supplement, helps support and maintain health in humans (and most mammals).

CBD is a great option for persons looking for assistance with finding relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD, sleep disorders, IBS, and many other conditions without the multitude of negative side effects that often come with taking prescription drugs.

Endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands,

and immune cells. There are currently two known kinds

of receptors within the Endocannabinoid System;

CB1 and CB2 receptors.

In each tissue, these receptors have differing signals,

and different effects based on the certain cannabinoids that respond to their signals, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.

What is "Full Spectrum"?

When you see the term "Full Spectrum Hemp Extract" you may be wondering, what exactly is Full Spectrum? What makes Full Spectrum a better option for me?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of at least 113 different cannabinoids. Full Spectrum means you are getting the a wide range of cannabinoids that are present naturally in the hemp plant, as well as a plethora of essential minerals, vitamins, protein, chlorophyll, fatty acids, fiber, terpenes and flavonoids! This is opposed to synthetic Cannabinoids or a singular, isolated Cannibinoid extract.

This mix of Cannabinoids and other natural compounds within our Full Spectrum Hemp Extract work together to amplify their individual therapeutic properties in a harmonious manner, supporting your body in its attempt to achieve homeostasis. This collaborative blend is often referred to as the "Entourage Effect".

We are confident in the superior quality of our Owego Hemp Full Spectrum Hemp Extract, and we know you will be too.

Always talk to your doctor before you take CBD, or any other herbs or supplements.

Is CBD Effective for Pets?

CBD helps support and maintain health in humans – and their best friends! Every day more and more veterinarians are recommending the use of CBD thanks to its seemingly infinite range of therapeutic benefits. There are an increasing number of studies being released, but among the first truly definitive studies was one done by Cornell University. Published in the international journal "Frontiers in Veterinary Science" in July of 2018, the study showed very promising results. The study, examining both the safety and effectiveness of CBD in dogs with osteoarthritis, showed a significant decrease in pain and no observable side effects. CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory, and this study proves it to be a fantastic alternative to NSAID treatments which often have ill side effects.

Separation anxiety is often a difficult struggle for pet owners, particularly when you have to leave for work. CBD is a natural anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), and boosts serotonin and dopamine production. It also regulates stress response, and may provide assistance with barking, chewing, aggression, shaking/tremors, and indoor accidents that come as a result of a pet dealing with anxiety.

CBD is also an antiemetic. An antiemetic is a drug that is effective against vomiting and nausea. While there are many of these drugs available on the market, some of the most common ones given to pets can have a variety of negative side effects. These include hypotension, excessive drooling, lethargy, sedation, diarrhea, lack of appetite, and even a decreased threshold for seizures. Most sedative medications simply mask the underlying condition, where CBD works physiologically to return functioning to normal. CBD is a much safer and natural alternative to these drugs.

While other mammals have a similar endocannabinoid system to ours, their tolerance will vary based on size. What may be just a small dose to us humans, could be a potentially large dose for our furry friends. Improper dosing can lead to drowsiness, and in extremely high doses nausea/diarrhea can occur. It is important to make sure you stay informed and give your pet the correct dose. Always start lower, and work higher until you find the right amount that works for your pet. While there is a general rule of starting with 1 mg per 10 lbs of weight, for specific dosing information, speak to your veterinarian.

Quality is key when it comes to finding the correct CBD that will work for your pet. Always look for organic ingredients, lab tests, and an assurance there is little to no THC in the product. THC can be toxic to dogs, causing severe nausea and vomiting, as they have a much lower tolerance.
